Former Barnsley defender Lee Collins has died, his club Yeovil Town have revealed.

The 32-year-old died on Wednesday.

Collins played seven games on loan to the Reds from Port Vale in 2012 before signing permanently that summer but not playing the following season and moving to Shrewsbury Town on loan then Northampton Town permanently.

He then played for Mansfield Town, Forest Green Rovers and non-league Yeovil where he was club captain.

“All at Yeovil Town Football Club are mourning the loss of club captain Lee Collins,” a club statement read.

“Lee sadly passed away yesterday and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

“We ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy at this time.”

A Barnsley statement added: “We are saddened to hear this.

“Our thoughts are with Lee’s family, friends and colleagues at this time.

“#OnceARedAlwaysARed.”
