A FAMILY-RUN jeweller is celebrating 40 years in business - after opening the shop in 1981.

Kingston Jewellers was founded by Peter Kingston after his retirement from a three-decade-long career in the Parachute Regiment.

Peter, along with his wife June and two daughters, Sara and Sally, set up shop in the Victorian Arcade where they have been ever since.

“I took over the business when my parents retired in 2011 after 30 years of running the shop,” said Sara.

“Over the years we have seen many trends in jewellery from the gold chains and earrings in the 80s and 90s to the bead sensation in the early 2000s - whatever it is we aim to keep our customers pleased.”

Along with manager Debbie, Sara opened a second shop opposite the premises which sells fashion jewellery and watches.

“The main shop also expanded to sell engagement and wedding rings, diamonds, and children’s jewellery and watches,” added Sara.

“In 2018 I also created a website to sell our exclusive jewellery and watches and we also carry out valuations on the premises.

“Our repair and alteration service in our local workshop is always in high demand and nothing is too much trouble for us to help people with.

“As we are an independent jeweller our prices are markedly lower than the high street.

“We are able to help you design a piece of jewellery with our computer aided design (CAD) service.

“If you have a favourite piece of jewellery you have seen or designed we can transform it for you into the real thing.

“Please celebrate with us this year, when you come in mention this advert and you will be offered ten per cent off your purchase, excluding sale items.

“It’s always with thought, and happiness, and love when buying your jewellery at Kingston Jewellers in Barnsley.”
