DEMOLITION work to make way for a new town centre secondary school is set to go ahead.
An application has been lodged with planners for the demolition of the former NHS Keresforth Centre on Keresforth Close, off Broadway.
Eight disused buildings are spread across the 4.2-hectare site, which is expected to house Trinity Academy St Edward’s in two years’ time.
A temporary facility, initially meant to be on the same site as the finished school, this week opened in Eastgate House - formerly a Barnsley College building.
The application said works are expected to commence by the end of this month, if the scheme is given the green light.
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
