Barnsley’s Boxing Day game is in doubt due to Covid-19 in the Stoke City camp, but head coach Poya Asbaghi is preparing as though it is on.

The Potters - who are due to visit Oakwell on Sunday, December 26 - had to call off this weekend’s game at Coventry City.

Stoke are down to eight senior players due to Covid as well as injuries. The nine players with Covid will be isolating until at least Boxing Day, some later.

The EFL rules state that teams must play if they have 14 players including a goalkeeper.

The Stoke Sentinel have reported that the Midlands club are hoping to update their supporters on Monday.

After Friday’s 0-0 draw with West Brom, Barnsley head coach Asbaghi told the Chronicle: “Right now I am expecting the game to have a kick-off.

“We haven't heard anything else. West Brom for example had a lot of players who weren't present last game but today everyone was back. I hope we can play the game but if not will accept it and go with what is recommended.”
