MORE people tested positive for Covid on Monday in Barnsley than on any other day since the start of the pandemic.
Six of the worst seven days since last March - in terms of number of positives cases being registered - have been in December.
Monday was by far the worst-hit day with 575 positive tests - 145 more than the second-worst, December 23.
More than 54,000 people have had a positive test since the start of the pandemic - and Barnsley’s overall infection rate is 881.6 per 100,000 residents, the highest this year.
It’s a 129 per cent increase on the previous week’s figures and more than 2,100 people have received a positive result in the last seven days.
