A ‘HARD-WORKING, loyal, and amazing’ school cook has retired after almost 40 years’ service at a Cudworth primary school.

Marie Kenealy, 68, had a special assembly held for her at Birkwood Primary School.

“I’ve loved working there, it’s been like home from home,” said Marie.

“It was a difficult decision to make, but I realised the time had come for me to retire.

“I’m really going to miss all the staff and children and would like to thank them for all their support over the years.”

Staff wished Marie a happy retirement and praised her 39 years of service.

Headteacher Daniel Wood added: “Marie has been an amazing servant to our lovely school.

“Thirty-nine years of loyalty, hard work and much love have all gone in to well over one million lunches.

“This is astonishing and I can’t thank her enough.

“On behalf of everyone, I wish her the happiest retirement as she enjoys more time with her lovely family.

“Thankfully, both Marie’s daughters are connected to school and she has already volunteered to assist with helping our lovely children read.”
