YOUNGSTERS at two Barnsley primary schools had the chance to interview a Yorkshire Olympic hero last week.

Year five children at Outwood Primary Academy Darfield and Littleworth Grange interviewed the only athlete to hold two Olympic titles in the triathlon event, Alistair Brownlee MBE.

It was part of a news-related challenge day as the kids were asked to create their own newspaper.

Gemma Kilner, lead principal at the schools, said: “We believe in doing all we can to support our children to reach their full potential and to make education fun.

“Events like the OPA News Day are an example of this as they are such a fun learning experience for the children.”

The double Olympic champion added: “The best bit of advice I can offer anyone is just to try, if you get the opportunity, anything you can.

“I think that’s in everything, whether it’s in sports, arts, music and everything else because ultimately you don’t know what your passion is, or what will inspire you, or what you’ll enjoy doing.”
