CONSERVATIVE Party leader David Cameron visited Barnsley yesterday to see the pile of rubble where a new college should be being built.

The college's £33m redevelopment plans were halted because of a funding cock-up by the Learning and Skills Council which was paying for most of it.

Mr Cameron said the situation was a shambles that needed sorting urgently so construction could start. "It has been a complete shambles by the LSC and the mess they have made of it."

"You can see it is shovel-ready. The government needs to get its act together, work out how much money it can spend, prioritise projects and act quickly."
