AROUND one in eight adults in Barnsley are currently unvaccinated against coronavirus, new figures show.

The NHS statistics show 86.8 per cent of over-18s - 178,647 people - have received their first dose of the vaccine as of June 5, a year after the roll-out began in full force.

That means 13.2 per cent of the eligible adult population are yet to take up the invitation.

Among people aged 25 to 29, 73.7 per cent have received at least one vaccine - while 97.8 per cent of those older than 80 have been jabbed.

The figures show 7.6 per cent of five to 11-year-olds, 57.1 per cent of 12 to 15-year-olds and 69.6 per cent of 16 to 17-year-olds have had their first dose.

Nationally, 93.1 per cent of eligible people aged 12 and older have had their first dose, while 87 per cent have had their second dose and 69.2 per cent have had a booster.
