Barnsley have made a second signing in as many days, bringing in midfielder Luca Connell on a three-year deal.

The 21-year-old started at Bolton Wanderers, making ten Championship appearances as a teenager.

The Liverpool-born Republic of Ireland under 21 international then moved to Scottish giants Celtic but did not play for them in three years.

The left-footed central midfielder played 42 games for Scottish third tier side Queen's Park on loan, scoring ten goals.

He has been let go by Celtic and joins for free.

Luca the club website: “I’m over the moon to finally get it done.

“Over the years there’s been some speculation about it happening, but I’m finally here and I’m happy to be a Barnsley player.

“My agent is from Barnsley, so he’s told me about the history of the club. He brought (Conor) Hourihane and [Kieran] Tripper to the club, so there’s high standards. I just know that we need to bounce back to get this club back where it belongs.”

Barnsley signed goalkeeper Jamie Searle yesterday.
