Barnsley has a Commonwealth Games champion after judo star Lachlan Moorhead won gold in the 81kg men's category.

The 21-year-old from Penistone won all four of his contests in Coventry representing England.

He stunned favourite Francois Gauthier Drapeau of Canada in the final to delight the home crowd.

It was a first international senior competition for Lachlan who wants to become Great Britain's first ever judo Olympic gold medalist.

Hollie Naughton, who is from Barnsley but represents Canada, is also guaranteed a medal. The squash star stunned favourite Joelle King from New Zealand in the semi-final and will compete for gold tomorrow.

Cricketer Katherine Brunt helped England to a second successive win against South Africa, hitting 38 off 23 balls then taking a wicket. They are through to the semi-finals.

Table tennis legend Sue Bailley starts her event tomorrow.
