A BARNSLEY MP has blasted the government’s handling of a ‘crisis’ which has resulted in British Army recruits plummeting.
John Healey, MP for Wentworth and Dearne, is the Shadow Defence Secretary and criticised a lack of action which has seen local recruits fall by 28 per cent.
Further cuts are planned by the government - and John believes it’s ‘weakened the foundations’ of the country’s defences.
“Conservative ministers have cut the British Army to its smallest size in 300 years, with frontline troops bearing the brunt of these cuts,” he added.( “Our armed forces are essential to our national security and resilience.
“With growing Russian aggression, the government is pushing ahead with further cuts to the army by 10,000 troops over the next three years.
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
