Barnsley showed real character to come from behind twice in a 2-2 draw at high-flying Ipswich Town and gain their first away point of the season.

Former Reds striker Conor Chaplin scored a superb opener but Jack Aitchison levelled six minutes later.

Another ex-Red Sam Morsy made it 2-1 midway through the second half but Callum Styles levelled soon after.

The visitors were hanging on at the end as Ipswich missed a host of late chances, but they showed a lot of resilience.

Michael Duff made one change from the team that lost 3-0 at home to Wycombe in their last league game. Jordan Helliwell came in at right wing-back for his third league start in place of Robbie Cundy, with Jordan Williams moving from the right into there back three.

Chaplin was almost put clean through in the fifth minute but took a poor touch and the ball was collected by Brad Collins, who later bravely punched the ball away when Freddie Ladapo looked set to head in. At the other end, Luca Connell and Luke Thomas shot well wide from distance.

Barnsley were forced into a change on 16 minutes when Helliwell limped off injured and was replaced by Clarke Oduor.

The hosts took the lead on 27 minutes when Chaplin brilliantly curled a 25-yard free-kick into the top left corner.

But Aitchison headed home Connell’s right-wing cross for his first goal for the Reds.

Barnsley suffered another injury just before the break with Josh Benson coming off, for Wolfe.

Collins made an excellent save seconds before the break, diving down to his left to deny Leif Davis who brought down a long ball and shot for the bottom corner 15 yards out.

Ipswich were the better team in the first half but Barnsley showed resilience to stay in the game, responding to falling behind and two injuries.

Styles could have put the Reds in front just after the break when played in by Williams on the left of the box but his 15-yard effort was well-saved by Christian Walton diving to his left.

Ipswich then went close when a right-wing cross dropped at the the feet of Ladapo six yards out but Collins dispossessed him with a fine sliding tackle.

Barnsley brought Tedic and ex-Ipswich man James Norwood on after 65 minutes.

Andersen turned Connell’s right-wing corner just wide at the near post six yards out then Oduor hit the side netting from a tight angle on the right of the box.

The hosts took the lead against the run of play midway through the second half when Burns ran down the right wing and crossed for Sam Morsy who founded the bottom left corner from six yards out.

Ipswich thought it was 3-1 minutes later when Marcus Harness wrestled with Liam Kitching before going clean through and scoring, but the referee spotted a foul.

Instead it was 2-2 on 75 minutes when Styles was left unmarked to head Connell’s left-wing corner into the top right corner of the net for his first goal of the season.

Town almost replied soon after but Collins impressively tipped over a powerful volley by Wes Burns from the right of the box.

Ipswich dominated the later stages of the game, including eight added minutes, with George Edmundson heading a right-wing corner onto the right post then substitute Sone Aluko dragging wide 15 yards out on the right.

Collins made another magnificent save in the 98th minute, leaping to his right to keep out a header by Kane Vincent-Young. Aluko then saw an effort cleared off the line by captain Andersen with the last touch of the game.
