HOUSE prices increased by more than 15 per cent in Barnsley in the last year, new figures show.
The average house price in the town in July was £166,778, Land Registry figures show - a 2.5 per cent increase on June.
Over the last year, the average sale price of property in Barnsley rose by £22,000 - putting the area fifth among Yorkshire and the Humber’s 21 local authorities with price data for annual growth.
First-time buyers in Barnsley spent an average of £148,000 on their property - £19,000 more than a year ago, and £44,000 more than in July 2017.
