A WOMAN who embarked on the same fundraising walk her family and friends did while she was undergoing cancer treatment 25 years ago has raised more than £2,000.
Gemma Bann, now 31, was just five years old when she finished her treatment for Non-Hodgkin lymphoma - a type of cancer that develops in the lymphatic system.
Whilst undergoing treatment for the disease, her closest friends and family walked in fancy dress from Penistone to Sheffield Children’s Hospital to raise funds.
They completed the same walk on Sunday - and it looks like they’re going to raise £2,500 once all the money is collected.
Gemma told the Chronicle: “It was a really good day.
“I thought it would take forever but it ended up going really well.
“It was quite emotional - all the children on the ward waved at us when we got to Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
“I never expected to raise this much money - we originally thought it would be around £500 but once all the money is collected we’re hoping it’ll hit £2,500.”
The money will be donated to P.A.C.T - a charity which offers emotional and practical support to families of children who are undergoing treatment for cancer or leukaemia at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
