BARNSLEY Central MP Dan Jarvis joined the mayor to hand over a forgotten football trophy to a local team.
Known as the Royston Challenge Cup, it was last competed for in 1985 and belonged to the Barnsley Football Association.
Dan joined Coun Sarah Tattersall to present West Bretton Football Club with the historic trophy, after they beat Pack Horse FC on August 28.
Dan told the Chronicle: “It was great to be with the Mayor for the presentation of the Royston Cup to this year’s winners, West Bretton Football Club.
“My congratulations go to Scott and the team, who told me they romped to victory.
“Scott has been the driving force behind bringing the Royston Cup competition back to Barnsley and I’m hopeful we can restore this historic competition to its former glory.”
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
