A round-up of Barnsley FC related stories from this week.

EX-REDS NAMED IN WORLD CUP SQUAD

Five former Barnsley players have been named in World Cup squads.

Ex-Reds John Stones, from Thurlstone, and Kieran Trippier have both been included in Gareth Southgate's England squad.

Kieffer Moore and Adam Davies – who helped Barnsley to promotion in 2019 – are both in the Wales squad.

Ike Ugbo, who was on loan to the Reds in 2017, has been named in the Canada squad.

The World Cup starts in Qatar on Sunday.

REDS HOPE TEDIC IS NOT ANOTHER STRIKER INJURY DOUBT

Barnsley will be hoping Slobodan Tedic's ankle injury is not serious.

The Serbian sustained the injury early in his full league debut at Shrewsbury on Saturday.

He played more than an hour after that but came off, with head coach Michael Duff unsure on how long he would be out – if at all.

With James Norwood also out injured, the Reds are low on strikers with Devante Cole on the only other fit one in the first team squad.

REDS VISIT VALE IN TROPHY

BARNSLEY are due to visit fellow League One club Port Vale in the first knock-out round of the EFL Trophy.

The game is due to take place on the week commencing November 21.

Vale are currently 15th in League One, four points behind the Reds, after promotion in the play-offs in May.

The Staffordshire club – whose director of football is former Barnsley manager David Flitcroft – drew 1-1 at Oakwell in the league in September.

Barnsley have won six of their last eight away matches in all competitions.

Michael Duff has made wholesale changes for each of the Trophy games so far this season, with several under 23s players and fringe first teamers given a chance.

Some of them have since been loaned out but the likes of Jack Walton, Jasper Moon, Will Hondermarck, Harrison Nejman, Danny Benson, Fabio Jalo and Jack Butterfill could be involved.

LOANEE ACKROYD NETS AGAIN

BARNSLEY loanee Joe Ackroyd netted again as Guiseley lost 4-2 at Radcliffe Borough in the North Premier League on Saturday.

The midfielder‘s fourth for the Lions was a late consolation strike.

Keegan Hartley was an unused substitute.

Callum Styles, also on loan from the Reds, was a late substitute as Millwall won 4-2 at Preston North End in their last Championship fixture for a month due to the World Cup.

Styles is now with the Hungary squad who visit Luxembourg on Thursday before hosting Greece on Sunday.

U18S INTO THIRD ROUND, 21S LOSE AT BURNLEY

Barnsley under 18s won 2-1 in the FA Youth Cup second round against Scunthorpe United.

The visitors were winning at the break but Fabio Jalo won and scored a penalty before netting the winner.

The under 21s lost 3-0 at Burnley on Monday afternoon.
