ONE of the town’s oldest residents - 102-year-old Edie Greaves - discovered the thrills of ultra-modern virtual reality technology thanks to Barnsley College students.
Edie, who lives in the town centre, is part of Age UK Barnsley’s Forever Young group and visited the college’s Discover Digital space, taking part in Remembrance Day-themed interactive activities.
She sat with student Anthony Kenyon and used iPads and VR headsets.
Tutor Matt Wilson said: “It was great for them to spend time together chatting and learning from one another and talking about Remembrance Day.
“It was certainly intergenerational, with a more than 85-year age difference between Edie in particular and our students, and I think everyone gained a lot from it.”
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
