Penistone Church and Worsbrough Bridge gained important wins in the Northern Counties East League.

Penistone won 3-1 over Silsden on Saturday which left them fifth in the Premier Division with 33 points from 19 games. It was a fourth straight league win.

Cameron Simpson and Nathan Keightley scored either side of half-time. Former Barnsley youngster Talent Ndlovu pulled one back with a penalty midway through the second half. Reece High secured the win in the 86th minute.

Worsbrough Bridge gained a 4-2 home win over Swallownest in Division One. They are now 14th with 21 points from as many games, leaving them five points and four places clear of the relegation zone.

Athersley Rec lost a 2-0 lead in a 2-2 draw at Beverley Town. Lee Garside and Ethan Nixon netted in quick succession midway through the first half. The hosts pulled one back in the 73rd minute then equalised in the 89th.

Rec stay third-bottom, three points adrift of safety.

In the County Senior Premier, Wombwell Main gained a 3-2 win at Oughtibridge to move up to third. Sixth-placed North Gawber won 2-1 over Stocksbridge Park Steels reserves.

In the Barnsley Sunday League, Darfield Cross Keys gained a 15-1 success at Prospect, with Connor Asquith netting five.
