Tom Edwards' loan to Barnsley from Stoke City has been cancelled due to a long-term knee injury.

The defender played 15 games for the Reds, netting a long-range goal at Port Vale in the EFL Trophy, and generally impressed on the right of the back three.

But, having missed a month with a twisted knee, he lasted 40 minutes of the FA Cup loss at Derby last week before damaging medial ligaments.

The Reds have already brought in loanee Bobby Thomas from Burnley to cover for Edwards and Robbie Cundy who is expected to be out for two to three weeks.
