BARNSLEY’S teenage striker Fabio Jalo has been called up for a Portugal under 18s training camp.

The 17-year-old was born in Portugal before moving to England and coming through the academy at Oakwell. The English FA are also thought to have considered him.

He scored his first senior goals in a 4-2 EFL Trophy win at Doncaster Rovers in October and has come off the bench in seven league games.

The training camp runs from Monday to Thursday.

Academy manager Bobby Hassell told the club website: “I’m thrilled that Fabio has been recognised at international level.

“His development over the last few years has been excellent, which is a testament to his character and dedication to continue improving and taking on the advice of the coaching staff here at Oakwell, who also deserve massive credit for helping to bring him through.

“We’re delighted with how he is progressing and hopefully this will be another step in the right direction for him.”
