WILL Hondermarck has moved permanently from Barnsley to Northampton Town for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old made 17 appearances – five as a starter – for the Reds after joining in September 2021 following his release by Norwich City.

He played nine Championship games last season for the relegated Reds, being used in central midfield, central defence and at right wing-back.

Hondermarck also earned a call-up for the under 21s side of the Republic of Ireland, where he grew up having been born in France.

This season, he made two substitute appearances in League One in August – totalling 15 minutes – and played in five cup matches. His last appearance was at Bolton in the FA Cup in November then he injured his ankle in training, only returning this week to full fitness.

Northampton are currently in the League Two automatic promotion places.

At least one more fringe player could leave before the window closes.
