Oliver Rowland’s team pulled out of the Formula E race in Cape Town this week due to ‘rear suspension safety concerns.’

Rowland, 29, from Penistone, had hoped to build on collecting his first points of the season a fortnight earlier in his team’s home race in Hyderabad, India.

He is now 17th in the standings with eight points while his team Mahindra are seventh.

A statement read: “A thorough investigation on the suspension elements of the Mahindra race cars will take place on the team’s return to the UK.

“The safety of our drivers and extended teams is of the utmost importance.”

The global electric car series will now have a break for a month before another meeting in São Paulo, Brazil on March 25.

It then moves on to Berlin, Monaco, Seoul, Jakarta, Portland, Rome and London with the final races in July.
