WHILE the undersoil heating system at Oakwell and a team of people clearing the surrounding areas helped Barnsley FC get their game played on Saturday, no other competitive sport is thought to have taken place in the town that day.

All the local football in Barnsley was cancelled after snow blanketed the area on Friday, and games for town teams further afield were also postponed.

The town’s rugby and hockey teams also saw their home fixtures called off.

Sunday saw more action, with a handful of junior games and Sunday League matches going ahead.

Barnsley Women’s FC played at home in Wombwell, losing a 2-0 lead late on in a 2-2 draw with Norton and Stockton Ancients.
