WATH completed an unbeaten home season and took their promotion fight to the last day with an 18-10 win over Yorkshire Division Two champions Wensleydale.

The result left them fourth, four points behind second-placed Harrogate Pythons and three off third-placed Baildon who also won this week.

In order to finish in the second promotion place, Wath would need to win their final game at Leeds Corinthians on April 8 and hope the two teams above them lose.

Baildon host Yarnbury and Harrogate host Wensleydale.

Wath went 13-0 up against Wensleydale then were pegged back to 13-10 before scoring another unconverted try.

Brandon Coult and Alex Butterworth scored tries with Jack Whitlam adding a conversion as well as two penalties.

Wath host Nottingham Moderns in Papa John’s Cup on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Barnsley Ladies pulled out of their game against Leicester Tigers on Saturday, their final game of the season.

They were left seventh in the ten-team Championship North – the second tier in English women’s rugby.
