A COUNCILLOR has condemned youths for risking their lives after several teens were seen scaling a bridge’s roof at a school.

Youngsters were witnessed climbing on the roof at Netherwood Academy last Thursday.

Coun James Higginbottom, cabinet spokesperson for environment and highways, said: “I was deeply concerned to see this kind of irresponsible behaviour that put the young people in question at serious risk of harm.

“One missed step at that height could have resulted in a fatality.

“I am hugely grateful to South Yorkshire Police for their response and continued monitoring of the situation.

“My message to those involved is simple: think about the consequences of your actions before behaving in such a reckless manner.”

A spokesperson from Netherwood Academy added: “At Netherwood, we always support and work with our local community, and our students know that we expect them to behave appropriately outside of school.

“If issues do arise, we welcome feedback from elected members so that we can work together to find solutions.”
