A FORMER Barnsley Hospital doctor has died aged 94.
Dr Gerald Sandler was a consultant cardiologist at the Gawber Road site from 1966 to 1990.
He was one of the key players in creating the country’s first mobile coronary care ambulances.
His son David, who now works as a consultant cardiologist at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, said: “He developed the Coronary Care Unit at the hospital and was instrumental in creating the first mobile coronary care ambulance on the British mainland.
“My dad died peacefully, in his sleep, at Bakewell Cottage Nursing Home on June 9 2023.
“There may well be Barnsley people who would remember him and be interested to hear of his demise.”
