Barnsley are hoping to complete their search for a new head coach this week.
The Reds have interviewed candidates to replace Michael Duff who left for Swansea City on June 22.
The plan has been to make a final appointment before the weekend but it is not impossible that the search will go into the third week of pre-season.
Martin Devaney and Tom Harban have been taking training and oversaw the 2-1 friendly win at Worksop Town on Saturday.
The season starts in just over a month on August 5 and the Reds are keen to have a new head coach in place with as much time as possible to work with the squad.
Devaney, his ex Barnsley team-mate and former Sheffield Wednesday Darren Moore, former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder and current Stockport County manager Dave Challinor have all been linked to the job.
But the club have kept the identity of their candidates quiet.
