Derry City manager Ruaidhri Higgins has emerged as a possible candidate for the Barnsley head coach job.

According to reports in the Derry News, the 38-year-old has held talks with the Reds over the vacant position.

The Chronicle has contacted the Reds who declined to comment.

Higgins is from Derry and spent four years as a youth player at Coventry City before a long playing career in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with Derry City, twice, Bohemians, Dundalk and Coleraine.

He started his coaching career as an assistant at Dundalk then worked for the Republic of Ireland national team as an analyst and scout.

He took his first manager's job at Derry City in 2021. They finished second in the League of Ireland last year, qualifying for the Europa Conference League, and are currently third with the season ongoing.
