A FORMER Barnsley footballer has been given a suspended sentence for sexually assaulting a woman.

Paddy McCourt, who played 23 times for the Reds between 2013 and 2014, was accused of committing the assault on January 30. 2022.

The 39-year-old, from County Donegal, appeared at Londonderry Magistrates’ Court in Northern Ireland earlier this week.

He denied the charge and will appeal the sentence.

He was placed on the sex offenders’ register for five years and was handed a three-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.
