A WORLD-RENOWNED artist and illustrator was so impressed by the work of children from a Hemingfield school he has donated his own artwork.

Earlier this year, year six pupils from the Ellis C of E Primary School took part in an art lesson inspired by the artist James Mayhew.

It was part of the Fantasy and Fables event which took place at Elsecar Heritage Centre.

The children had this opportunity through FUSION - Barnsley’s Cultural Education Partnership - who organised the event.

James has now donated a piece of artwork, which was presented to the school on Wednesday.

Maggi Brinkley, the art lead at the school, told the Chronicle: “I chose some of the children’s work and this was displayed at the public event where some of our children met James Mayhew.

“He was so impressed by the standard of work he has donated a piece of art, which he painted at the event, to school.

“This piece of work was presented to school on Wednesday afternoon by Ruth Wood who is the Cultural Network Manager for FUSION.”
