BARNSLEY have cancelled their friendly at Mansfield Town which was due to take place on Tuesday evening.

A club statement read: "The game was set to be played by a Barnsley XI on Tuesday evening, but after assessing the squad, new head coach, Neill Collins, felt that the players set to be involved would benefit from working solely within the main training group ahead of the start of the season on August 5."

The Reds have had a turbulent pre-season, also cancelling an under 21s match at Guiseley while other games have been played behind-closed-doors.

Barnsley won 2-1 at Worksop Town in their first friendly then were 2-0 up at another non-league club AFC Fylde before the match was abandoned due to a thunderstorm. They lost 9-1 at home to Leeds United behind-closed-doors on Saturday then were beaten 1-0 at Hull City on Tuesday.

They are due to visit another Championship side tomorrow when they go to Blackburn Rovers for another behind-closed-doors fixture.

The last friendly is at home to Crewe Alexandra on July 29.
