WOMBWELL Town made a superb start to life in NCEL Division One with a 6-0 home win over Yorkshire Amateur on Saturday.
Jed Rashid’s brace and a Gadhafi Kiwanuka goal put the hosts 3-0 up then they added three more in the final five minutes through Brodie Cooper, Matt Thornton and Will Harling.
Athersley Rec lost 5-1 at home to Glasshoughton Welfare.
Penistone Church won 1-0 at Golcar United in the Premier Division.
Kieran Ryan opened the scoring midway through the first half. Goalkeeper Chris Snaith was sent off just after the break for handball outside his area.
Co-manager John Whitehead said: “The sending off was unfortunate but if it looks like he handled the ball outside the box and it’s a red card. We’re really good as a team when our backs are against the wall and for the 44 remaining minutes we dug in. Credit to the ten men they were well disciplined for the second half.”
