TWO Barnsley parks have retained their prestigious Green Flag status.

Worsbrough Mill Country Park and Cannon Hall Museum Park and Gardens received the award, which is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

Bosses have said an incredible amount of work has gone into enhancing green spaces and supporting natural habitats.

Improvements have included improving woodlands and meadows, planting of new flower beds, and installing willow-weaving sculptures.

Coun Robert Frost, cabinet spokesperson for regeneration and culture, said: “We are incredibly lucky in Barnsley to have an abundance of stunning green spaces, and it is important that we protect and preserve them.

“The Barnsley Museums team and their dedicated volunteers do an incredible job in looking after Cannon Hall Parkland and Worsbrough Mill Country Park, and the award really showcased this.

“We know how much people appreciate visiting and the benefits they can bring to health and wellbeing.”
