BARNSLEY East MP Stephanie Peacock is calling for local children to get reading this summer.

The Summer Reading Challenge, which is taking place at libraries across Barnsley, is an annual event which aims to help children improve their skills ahead of the new school year.

There are a variety of books to choose from, and this year’s theme is sports and games.

Ms Peacock said: “The Summer Reading Challenge is a brilliant opportunity for children across Barnsley to discover the joy of reading, and improve their literacy skills ahead of the new school year.

“I am pleased that Barnsley Libraries are once again participating in the scheme, and I know that lots of young people across the area have been excited to take part once again.

“Thank you to all the brilliant staff at the challenge and at Barnsley Libraries who make this possible every year.

“If you have discovered a new favourite book over the summer, let me know at stephanie.peacock.mp@parliament.uk”.
