A BARNSLEY man has been charged with murder following a stabbing in the town centre last week.

Police were called to reports of a man with serious injuries on Newton Street, Barnsley last Wednesday.

Upon arrival, officers located a man with stab wounds to his chest.

He was taken to the nearby Barnsley Hospital, but despite the best efforts of staff he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A post-mortem examination has revealed that he died as a result of a single stab wound.

Police have formally named the man as 28-year-old Daniel Varadi, who also goes by the name Daniel Micska.

Earlier this week, 21-year-old Daniel Balazs of Heelis Street, Barnsley was charged with murder.

Detective Inspector Matthew Bolger, senior investigating officer, said: “This is a truly awful incident in which a young man has tragically lost his life.

“I know there will be concerns from the community and I can assure residents we have dedicated teams working around the clock to investigate what has happened.”
