Athersley Rec sacked manager Jimmy Whitehead over the weekend following a 4-1 loss in a Barnsley derby at NCEL Division One leaders Wombwell Town.
The one-sided derby was played in front of a crowd of 542 on Friday.
Gavin Allott hit a hat-trick, two from the penalty spot, with Callum Walton also netting as Town went 4-0 up early in the second half.
Athersley’s Lee Garside pulled one back in the 90th minute. Rec have seven points from nine games after finishing last last season but being given a reprieve.
