AS IT HAPPENED
  • 1:47pm
Good afternoon and welcome to the Chronicle’s live text coverage of Barnsley’s home game against Burton Albion from 3pm.
  • 2:03pm
Team news: Just one change from Barnsley's last fixture as Jamie McCart comes in for Jack Shepherd who drops to the bench.
  • 2:05pm
Roberts; Cotter, Williams, Lopata, McCart, Cadden; Phillips, Kane, Russell; McAtee, Cole.
  • 2:05pm
The Brewers have collected two points and scored two goals in their first six games of the season, leaving them third-bottom in the table.
  • 2:07pm
After losing their first three games, they drew 0-0 at Wycombe then 1-1 at home to Bolton Wanderers before losing their last game 1-0 at home to Exeter City.
  • 2:11pm
Like Barnsley, they did not play this week after scheduled hosts Port Vale pulled out due to international call-ups.
  • 2:15pm
It is the second league match in a row in which Barnsley will face a side in the relegation zone after winning 2-0 at Cheltenham Town a fortnight ago.
  • 2:19pm
The Reds have won their last three games in all competitions, each by a 2-0 scoreline.
  • 2:22pm
Head coach Neill Collins told the Chronicle: “Every game in the football league is difficult. There is the odd one now and again when you get well ahead.
  • 2:26pm
“No matter how successful this season is going to be, we have to grind these wins out. We know we will have to be at our best for the full 90 minutes and try to make it as comfortable as possible for ourselves.
  • 2:29pm
“We have to consider that Burton have had some time off to prepare to come here, which can be only beneficial for them. “We focus on ourselves but we’re aware that Burton will come to win, and make it difficult for us.”
  • 2:30pm
He added: “It’s very similar to our previous game against Cheltenham. A team who haven’t won yet but are very aggressive at times, really entertaining and hard-working, organised, and will put us under pressure with good forward players who have physical qualities.”
  • 2:35pm
Striker Max Watters said: “You can’t look at how teams have started. “Every team can beat anyone. “We have to do what we do every week and not treat it any different.”
  • 2:39pm
Burton have former Barnsley defender Jasper Moon who made the switch between the two clubs in the summer following a successful loan in the second half of last season.
  • 2:43pm
Moon, now 22, joined the Reds aged 16 and played 34 first team games – mainly during the relegation campaign from the Championship in 2021/22.
  • 2:46pm
Collins said: “Jasper was here for my first ten days. “He’s a consummate professional and a good lad. “He had experienced success at Burton on loan.
  • 2:49pm
“Had he stayed here, he would have got an opportunity but having the chance to move to somewhere he knew he would play was too good to turn down. “We wish Jasper all the best and I am sure he will be looking forward to the game.”
  • 2:51pm
Devante Cole, Barnsley’s top-scorer with six from six this season, played 16 games for Burton on loan from Wigan in 2018, scoring twice.
  • 2:55pm
He netted twice against them last season in a 2-0 home victory for the Reds in December, to leave Burton five points adrift in the relegation zone but they won 12 of their next 24 games to finish 15th.
  • 2:57pm
The two clubs have met 11 times in total with the first in 2014. Barnsley were unbeaten in the first six meetings, winning three, but have lost three of the last five and won one. Burton’s only win in six games at Oakwell was in 2018 when they triumphed 2-1 in Jose Morais first game in charge of the Reds.
  • 3:03pm
1 The away side get the game underway.
  • 3:06pm
3 Slow start to the game with neither side really taking control. Almost a chance for Adam Phillips but he couldn't quite get onto the end of a through ball.
  • 3:07pm
4 A teasing cross from Cadden nearly gives the Reds a great chance to score, but it's just behind the Barnsley forwards.
  • 3:12pm
9 Great work from Phillips almost creates the first real chance. He chases down Max Crocombe in the Brewers goal and gets the ball before him, but the 'keeper does well to win the ball back.
  • 3:19pm
16 Free kick for Burton as Williams clatters into the back of a forward. Good chance to cross it in,
  • 3:23pm
    GOAL!
    Devante Cole what a strike!
  • 3:24pm
21 That is some goal. Devante Cole curls one in from 25 yards out into the top corner. It was great work from McAtee before that but Cole's finish was sublime.
  • 3:28pm
25 Superb presence from Liam Roberts, he takes the ball in the air and takes out Jordan Williams with him. Thankfully the defender is okay.
  • 3:30pm
28 An acrobatic effort from Lopata is saved well by the 'keeper. Barnsley completely on top in this game.
  • 3:40pm
37 The game's fairly quiet again with very little happening. Burton are showing no signs of scoring and the Reds look reasonably comfortable.
  • 3:46pm
42 Burton should be level but Liam Roberts makes an incredibly save. It's the away side's first shot on goal and it shouldn't have been 1-1. Lopata almost gave away a penalty before pulling out of the challenge, then Roberts made a good save.
  • 3:48pm
    ADDED TIME
    Three minutes added time.
  • 3:52pm
    HALF TIME: Barnsley 1 - 0 Burton.
  • 4:08pm
46 The Reds get the game back underway. No changes for either side.
  • 4:12pm
48 Another slow start to the half. Barnsley controlling the match as it stands, McAtee had a half chance but was unable to get his shot away, Burton now have a corner after Lubala's shot is deflected wide.
  • 4:14pm
51 Burton starting to find some space out wide, they're testing the Reds much more than the first half.
  • 4:18pm
54 Huge shouts for a Barnsley penalty. But the referee waves away the claims - it looked a stone wall handball from the press box.
  • 4:26pm
62 Scrappy play in the Burton box as Cotter, then Cadden both shoot but both efforts are well saved.
  • 4:27pm
64 Jamie McCart does incredibly well to block Powell's effort - it could have easily been a leveller for the Brewers.

  • 4:31pm
    GOAL!
Devante Cole with his second of the game,
  • 4:32pm
68 It's another Devante Cole goal. This time the finish is a lot easier. Phillips and O'Keeffe do brilliantly down the right, before O'Keeffe's cross finds Cole who makes no mistake.
  • 4:34pm
70 Cole thinks he's got his hat trick but there flag is up for offside.
