Rising Barnsley super-middleweight Callum Simpson stretched his winning run to 13 straight fights with a win on Saturday night.

The 26-year-old outpointed tough Mexican Jose de Jesus Macias with all three judges scoring it 100-89 for Simpson.

Simpson eased into the fight at the legendary York Hall in the east end of London.

By the mid rounds Simpson's dominance was starting to show but Macias was not backing down from the challenge posed by the heavy-hitting former Barnsley Star ABC man.

It was proving to be a very useful learning fight for Simpson but he categorically stretched ahead by putting 'El Changuito' down in the eighth round with a left handed shot.

The blooded Mexican came out firing in the final two rounds but Simpson stayed out of trouble to coast to victory.

Simpson told Sky Sports after the fight: "There were a few times when I caught him with clean shots. I tried to keep the range and get the ten rounds in.

"I thought if I put it on him, I probably could have got him out of there but I wanted the ten rounds and to show my class."

Simpson is hopeful of boxing for the British title before Christmas ahead of pushing for an outing at Oakwell next year.
