BARNSLEY RUFC slipped to last in their league after a fifth straight defeat from five games this season.

The Shaw Laners lost 34-21 at home to Skipton who overtook them and left them bottom of Yorkshire League Three with two points from five games.

They are now due to visit Halifax on Saturday.

Wath won 31-30 at Ripon to keep up their perfect record in Yorkshire League Two. Wath led 28-6 but the hosts came back to lead 30-28 before Jack Whitlam’s late penalty won it.

Whitlam kicked four penalties and two conversions with tries by James Thompson, Alex Butterworth and Pat Selkirk.

Wath are six points clear with five straight wins, ahead of a trip to Yarnbury.

Barnsley Ladies are due to visit Novocastrians in the Championship North on Saturday.
