BARNSLEY Town enjoyed an extraordinary 21-2 success at Thurcroft in Division Two of the County Senior League.

Connor Asquith led the way with eight goals while Sam Metcalfe added four and Luke Waterhouse hit a hat-trick.

The other scorers were Owen Moule, twice, Ross Nowodny, Josh Metcalfe, Liam Holderness and Danny Taylor.

Town, who were set up for this season with the aim of becoming one of the top non-league clubs in Barnsley, are top of their division having won all of their six games with a goal difference of plus 43.

Manager Robbie Gainey said: “It’s been a perfect start to the season.

“Connor Asquith has scored an incredible 25 goals in six starts, with his main strikepartner Sam Metcalfe adding 12 goals in seven games. We are enjoying our football, taking it one game at a time with the overall aim to secure promotion. It’s important we progress up the leagues as quick as possible.”

Leaders Dodworth MW drew 1-1 at Hemsworth MW in the Premier Division. Jack Ripley scored.

North Gawber won 2-1 at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels reserves. Lee Elsworth and Carey Welford netted.

Houghton Main won 3-0 at South Kirkby to move up to third.

Wombwell Main lost 2-0 at Hepworth United.

Silkstone United lost 2-1 at Swinton Athletic reserves in Division One.
