TWO RUNNERS for Barnsley clubs completed the Lakes In A Day Ultra which traverses the Lake District.

The race starts at Caldbeck in the north and finishes in Cartmel in the south, some 50 miles away.

The tough conditions led to more than 70 competitors failing to complete the race.

The event was also the British Trail Running Championship for middle distance.

The course took in the Helvellyn Ridge and the western side of Lake Windermere – it included 4,000m of ascent.

There was a two-mile re-route due to high winds and three miles of wading through thigh-high water in the dark.

Penistone Footpath Runner Damien Briscoe Damien managed to finish in a time of 14-48-37.

Barnsley AC’s Lee Hatfield finished in 16-18-27.

Barnsley Harriers Kelly Ford, Amie Ledger, and Richard Spooner took on the Rowbothams Round Rotherham 50-mile Trail Race.

This year the race was celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Kelly finished in ten hours and 52 minutes and second in her age category while Amie and Richard finished in 16 hours and 24 minutes.

Heather Simpson of Penistone Footpath Runners came third in the women’s over45 category at the Morley 10k.

Her time was 48-51. There was a total of 52 runners in the age category.

Barnsley AC’s Gemma Thickett ran a time of 48-29 while Stefen Radyk finished in 59-41. Barnsley Harrier Nigel Bradbury also competed.

Penistone’s Dawn and John Broom travelled to Chesterfield to take part in the No Walk in the Park 5k Road Race.

John ran his fastest 5k time since February 2019, clocking 19-52 on the undulating four-lap course.

It was a course best by 33 seconds.

John placed first in the men’s over50 age category.

Dawn was second woman overall in 21-17, also a course best by 20 seconds.

At the DonFaster 5k, Barnsley AC’s Lydia Race knocked two seconds off her time from the July version to finish as first woman in 18-30.

Kevin Manley finished in 24-00 and was first over70 man.

Barnsley AC’s Gail Colville finished the Chester Marathon in a time of 3-50-07.

Barnsley Harrier Jason Shepherd finished in 4-10-00 despite getting cramp after 22 miles in the warm weather.
