GARY Briscoe finished second at the Yorkshire Marathon in York.

Briscoe, who is from Penistone and runs for Barnsley AC, recorded a personal best of 2-26-05 – a new PB by almost five minutes. He will now represent England in the over35 age group.

Gareth Cooke was eighth in 2-31-45. Michael Grain and Alan Nutton set PBs by eight minutes, running 2-47-06 and 3-05-50 respectively.

Heidi Quigley, running for South Yorkshire Police, finished in 3-32-34.

Suzanne McGill claimed a personal best and a Penistone Footpath Runners record with 3-22-56.

This gave her a top ten position in the women’s over45 age category.

Also competing was Michael Walsh who finished in a time of 3-58-26 to get under the four-hour barrier. Barnsley Harrier Simon Haywood, recovering from a three-week illness, finished in 3-13. David Hanks set another PB of 2-53-51, and Adam Chambers set a PB of 2-49-19.

The event also included a shorter Yorkshire ten-mile race.

Penistone’s Raymond Brown claimed first place in the men’s over80 age category in 1-40-22. That knocked eight minutes off his own club record for the ten-mile road distance.

Barnsley AC’s Josh Bird knocked 23 seconds off his PB to finish 14th in 55-10, Nathan Doy took three minutes off his best in 58-23, and Naomi Drakeford was fourth while knocking more than four minutes off her best with a time of 1-01-36. Harriers Alan Bowers and Alistair Wilkie recorded PBs.

Penistone’s James Sidebottom, Rhianna Louise, Chloe Worth and Will Hoyland completed the Ladybower Reservoir 50k Ultra. They crossed the line together in 7-13-58.

Barnsley Harriers Hayley Johnson and Laura Bennett also competed, finishing 357th and 358th in a time of 7-38-03.

At the same event, there was also a 15-mile half marathon race and Penistone’s Heather Graham completed it in 2-56-39.

At the Manchester Half Marathon, Andrew Hepenstall was first Penistone runner back in a personal best of 1-15-20. Next was James Mumford in 1-17-07 which was also a PB.

Martin Ball followed in 1-20-49 which again was a personal best at the age of 52.

Ashley Firth also gained a PB in 1-25-58. Rob Lees completed the course in 1-21-58 just behind Matt Robinson who clocked a time of 1-20-42.

Barnsley Harriers Mark Rawnsley and Anita Dobson recorded PBs.

Four Penistone runners took part in the Holmfirth 10k.

First man back was Rory O’Sullivan in 57-54 and first woman back was Jill Scrivens in 1-01-39.

The Holmfirth 10k was part of the Northern Masters Championships,

Barnsley AC’s Chris McNicholas was first over60 and 15th place overall in 40-28.

At the Scarborough 10k, the first Penistone runner back was Daniel Hague in 40-10 followed by Mark Graham (49-11) and Peter Beever (49-45).

Josh Jordan-Clough was the first Barnsley Harrier back.

The Yorkshire Vets AA 5k Championships were held at the October York 5k. Barnsley AC’s Kevin Manley won silver in the over70 men’s category with a time of 24-17.

Barnsley AC’s Gail Colville finished first woman at the Mojacar’s 38th Popular Race. She ran the 9.1km trail race in 41-26.
