PENISTONE Footpath Runners battled snowy conditions at the Gravy Pud fell race – one of the few sporting events to take place this week.

It is held in Tintwistle in Derbyshire and is five miles long with 800 feet of climbing.

The route was challenging with steep hills and rough terrain along with a covering of snow.

George Parr was the first Penistone runner back, claiming a top ten finish in sixth place.

Other Penistone runners completing the course were Jon Hallam, Steve Saunders, Lesley Parker and Helen Wright.

Many running events were postponed including the very popular Percy Pud 10k road race which often attracts more than 1,000 runners.

It is now due to be staged this weekend when the weather is forecast to be improved.

Barnsley AC’s Josh Bird knocked 3-14 off his marathon PB from London earlier in the year.

His time at the Valencia Marathon was 2-28-40.

Paul Fieldsend ran his fastest marathon time since 2017, finishing in 3-29-24.

Another Spanish running event, this time on Lanzarote, saw Barnsley AC’s Faye Lund finish the 10k race in 52-34.

Barnsley AC’s Lee Hatfield took part in the Bauble Bimble Ultra Marathon, completing nine laps of the 5.3k loop of Ferry Meadows near Peterborough in a time of 6-26-26.

At the Doncaster 10k on the previous weekend, Bill Phillips secured first place in the men’s over75 age category with 48-04.

This also gave Bill a new club record.

Penistone’s Dawn Broom was second woman at the Thonock Lane Farm ParkRun in 23-21.

This also gave Dawn an age group record for the course in the women’s over55 category.
