PENISTONE Footpath Runner Graihagh Turner was crowned Yorkshire under 15 girls cross country champion.

In a tight finish, Graihagh crossed the line one second ahead of her nearest rival in 15-51. The Yorkshire Cross County Championships were held near Ripon, North Yorkshire. Graihagh’s performance means she will be selected to compete for Yorkshire at the inter-county championships later this year.

Meanwhile, 14 Penistone runners took part in the multi-stage Round Sheffield Run which is 20km in distance and covers trails and parkland. There are 11 timed sections.

First back for Penistone was Gareth Irvine in a total time of 1-29-55 which gave him a position of 90th overall.

First woman back for Penistone was Bec Crossland in 1-39-13.

Barnsley AC’s Richard Price and Adam Lavelle were the third male pair out of 121. Their time was 1-22-49.

Penistone’s Nick Wittingham finished in 31st place in 56 minutes in the San Silverstre Competa race in Spain.

At the Hardmoors 30, Barnsley Harrier Simon Haywood finished 12th with a time of 6-08-19.
