A round-up of Barnsley FC stories from the weekend and heading towards transfer deadline day.

FINAL DAYS OF WINDOW

Barnsley are hoping to be busy in the final week of the transfer window.

The deadline is on Thursday at 11pm

The Reds have so far brought in just USA international centre-back Donovan Pines while loaning out several fringe players.

Callum Styles was set to join Sunderland last week on loan with a view to a permanent move but the deal is thought to have stalled, and the Hungary international has been unwell.

The Reds are understood to have been looking at signing a left wing-back and central midfielder. They have been linked with Newcastle left-back Matty Bondswell.

Collins told the Chronicle: “It’s important we bring in players who will make us better. We have a pretty good squad size, there are a couple of areas we would like to strengthen in. It comes down to what makes us better and what fits in with the club’s budget.”

HUGE WIN FOR WOMEN

Barnsley FC women beat one of their title rivals on Sunday to continue their superb run.

Victoria Chincharo netted an 87th-minute winner, securing a 1-0 victory and inflicting a first defeat of the season on South Shields.

The Reds remain a point clear at the top of the North East Premier, although the three teams below them will overtake them if they win their games in hand. They have won their last seven games and are unbeaten in nine.

Barnsley are now due to visit fifth-placed Spennymoor on Sunday, looking for a 19th straight away win.

GOOD LOAN DEBUT FOR MCCARTHY

Barnsley loanee Conor McCarthy enjoyed a win and a clean sheet on his debut for Swindon Town in League Two.

The Irish defender was playing his first league match for 16 months when his new club beat Bradford City 2-0.

Andy Dallas made his debut off the bench for Oldham in their 1-0 home defeat to Woking in the National League.

UNDER 18S BEATEN

Barnsley under 18s lost 3-0 at Hull on Saturday.

They are now third, seven points behind leaders Birmingham City with a game in hand.

Barnsley under 21s are due to host Hull City on Tuesday of next week. The game is due to be played at 1pm on the training pitches.
