FORMER Barnsley FC head coach Paul Heckingbottom has been banned from driving for six months after admitting to speeding on the M1.

The 46-year-old, of Kerseforth Hill Road, Barnsley, was caught driving at 57mph in a 50mph zone between junctions 34 and 35 of the M1 on July 15.

He appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday in person to argue that the ban handed due to an accumulation of points could affect his future job prospects, just a month after he was sacked by Sheffield United.

Giving evidence, he said the care of his four children and his voluntary work at Weston Park Cancer Charity would also be impacted.

However, magistrate Nick Williams said he saw a ban as ‘an inconvenience rather than a hardship’.

He was subsequently banned from driving for six months after he indicated a guilty plea.
