A POPULAR Barnsley band will be playing alongside a legend of soul music this summer.

Under The Influence, fronted by Darfield man Jamie Marsh, have been announced as one of the acts featuring at the Askern Music Festival on Saturday July 13.

Topping the bill will be Billy Ocean, someone who the band regularly cover in their sets.

It is another boost for the band who are gathering momentum again after a break.

Jamie said: “Last year the boys were back with a bang after a post-Covid hiatus. We welcomed some new members to the band and worked on adding more bangers to our crowdpleasing set.

“We were delighted to be invited to play a number of private events as well as Wombwell Live, also we had a couple of amazing nights at Wombwell Main and ended the year with a bang at The Garrison in Barnsley town centre.

“We had a call to play a great venue, The Red Lion in Askern, which was our first gig out of Barnsley and we went down really well with the locals.

“Things were then onwards and upwards as we played to the punters at Doncaster Racecourse, leading to us getting asked to play in front of 7,000 people on the main stage at Askern Music Festival.

“We can’t wait to share a stage with Billy Ocean, Tom Meighan of Kasabian fame, Reverend and the Makers and many more. It’s a massive gig for us.”
