BARNSLEY will need to be wary of veteran goal-poacher Dwight Gayle on Saturday, after he joined Derby, and are still looking in the free agent market themselves.

The Rams, who visit Oakwell tomorrow, lost top-scorer James Collins to a knee problem, with three other strikers also injured.

They immediately replaced him this week with former Crystal Palace and Newcastle striker Gayle who was a free agent.

Reds head coach Collins told the Chronicle: “Derby had a specific issue with their number nine, and the injuries they have had, so Dwight Gayle is a fantastic addition for them.

“We considered all these options.

“We are always looking at what makes us stronger. We have a really strong group in terms of the camaraderie and mentality.

"Anyone who comes in at this stage, we need to be really sure about. They have to have a very specific role and we need to feel they will get us where we want to be. At the minute there is no one we think can do that but we’re still looking.”
