A DANCING centenarian is gearing up to celebrate her 102nd birthday next month - and her care home’s staff are hoping locals will help make it extra special by sending in cards.

May Barton has lived in Barnsley all her life and currently resides at The Firs in Dodworth, where she has lived for the last five years.

Her daughter, 66-year-old Shirley Mills, puts her long life down to cod liver oil and whisky - and admits she’s still dancing to this day.

May will celebrate her 102nd birthday on April 7, and the public are being asked to send in cards to mark the occasion.

“It’s quite an achievement,” she said.

“She’s looked after herself - she always has cod liver oil and a shot of whiskey.

“She’s got a good sense of humour and even now at 101 she’s still dancing.

“The cards will be great for her - we’ve already got plans for a big party.

“There’ll be a singer and a buffet at the care home - she loves it here.”

If you’re looking to send in a card, the address is May Barton, The Firs Residential Care Home, 186C Dodworth Road, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, S70 6PD.
